How to get free native plants in Brisbane

Did you know you can get free plants for your property? Brisbane City Council has a Free Native Plants Program that seeks to promote and foster local flora and fauna and it also boosts forestry across Brisbane City.

The Free Native Plants Program is available to residential ratepayers, schools, clubs, body corporates and registered community groups within Brisbane City.

Residents – How to apply for the Free Native Plants Program from Brisbane City Council:

  1. Visit Council or go to a Council library or ward office and present your paid rates notice from this current financial year or for Housing Commission and Defence Housing residents provide evidence of a recent rental payment. 
  2. You will be provided with an approved stamped Free Native Plants voucher.
  3. Visit a participating nursery and exchange your voucher for two free native plants.

How to apply for schools, community groups, clubs, body corporates and official citizenship ceremonies

Schools, community groups, clubs on Council lease land, charities and body corporates can apply online.

Schools and community groups need to describe the extent and purpose of their planting project in the application. Applicants will be contacted by email once their request has been approved. 

You’ll receive a Free Native Plants voucher to exchange for a native plant or plants from a participating nursery. You can find out participating nurseries in the Brisbane City Council Free Native Plants program here.
